The weekend got a kick start on Friday evening as my husband and I decided to walk around New York and look at the Christmas Lights. This is something that we’ve done every year since moving to this area. I used to work in a different part of New York and walk by Macy’s daily where I watched, in anticipation, as they got ready to unveil the windows. This was the first year that I had to make a special trip to go see them.
We started in Union Square and walked through the little Christmas shops there. And, then we ventured up towards Grand Central Station … saw the tree at Rockefeller which was beautiful, of course. From there, we decided to head to Le Parker Meridien as we heard that there was a ginger bread display. Unfortunately, it was a pretty big let down. There were about 6 (maybe 7 gingerbread houses) but nothing super spectacular.
From there we went to Bryant Park to walk through the Christmas shops there. And, what is a trip to the Bryant Park Christmas Shops without kettle corn?? Every year, we stop and get Kettle Corn here and this year was no exception. We took a bit of time trying to figure out which flavors to try before settling on Cajun, Cheddar and Original. I think Cheddar was definitely my favorite!
Saturday was filled with our remaining Christmas shopping. We were able to finish off the presents for a few people and ordered the rest online. Feels good to have that finished! I just need one more small gift (why do I keep saying that)?
And, Sunday was filled with cookie baking. I’d really love to show you what we created but my eyes and ambition was so much bigger than my actual talent. I had really wanted to make the cutest gingerbread men decorated with frosting… I had a vision in my mind that looked something like this:

Unfortunately, I ended up with something that looked nothing like that! My mom says that I need to practice… so, we’ll see. Maybe next year! So, now I have some a lot of ugly gingerbread cookies and I am thinking of making just one more batch of cookies. Any good ideas? We are almost at Christmas so just a few days left…
