Wow. I really didn’t want to get out of bed this morning. It was so nice and warm under the covers yet so frigid in the house. I was really tempted to stay in bed sleeping. Despite this, I managed to get myself up and ready to workout on time this morning.
This morning’s workout was aerobic intervals – 66 minutes plus a 5 minute warm up and 5 minute cool down for 76 minutes total. The intervals alternated with 2 minutes at a heart rate between 150 and 160 followed by 1 minute at a heart rate between 160 and 171. You’ve probably realized that these workouts look the same from week to week… they will change, I promise! But, for now we are adding 3 minutes to each workout to help build my aerobic base / push my aerobic threshold.
During this morning’s workout, I put on a movie which probably wasn’t too smart as I kept getting distracted and went a bit low on my heart rate during a couple of intervals. I really need something to watch but I guess I shouldn’t have anything *too good*. I also about half way through when I got tired starting asking myself what I was doing this for. I really just wanted to get off the Arc Trainer and go back to my steady but slow workouts. I forced myself to stay on and I am definitely glad that I did. I do want to see this program through but it is definitely challenging me in ways that I’ve never been challenged before.
After the cardio workout, I lifted weights for about 30 minutes. It is funny how I used to dread weight lifting but now I find myself eagerly awaiting it! I can feel that I am getting stronger and am able to do more in each strength training session.
Did you ever have a training program that you wanted to quit? What motivated you to stick with it?
