An Accidental Easier Day

Today’s workout was scheduled to be a constant intensity designed to increase my aerobic base.  The actual workout was a 5 minute warm up, 99 minutes with my heart rate between 160 and 171, followed by a 5 minute cool down.

Each Sunday night, I write out all of the workouts on a piece of paper that I hang by the Arc Trainer so that I am able to take a look at them quickly before I start my morning workout.  Today, I looked at the paper… I knew that I had to get my heart rate up to 160 – 171 but for some reason it just didn’t register.  At a couple of minutes in, I thought wow – my heart rate is way too high, I better slow down a bit and reduce the resistance.  I did that and then after about 25 minutes I realized that my heart rate actually was where it should have been when I got myself to slow down.  So, I decided to change this workout to a constant heart rate somewhere between 150 -170 and I tacked on an extra 15 minutes.

You can see from the chart where I realized that I needed to up my heart rate.  Once I stopped at the 60 minute break to change the Netflix show / restart the arc trainer, I definitely lost momentum and really struggled to get back above the 160 mark.  Overall, I am feeling stronger than I did 3 weeks ago when I started this program but the long workouts at higher intensities are still killer for me.  No matter… tomorrow is another day… I will get up and try again!
