Weekend Recap

Our weekend was filled with lots of errands on Saturday and then some general “house keeping” on Sunday as we geared up for the week.  On Saturday, we ran our errands… Costco, the grocery store, and an indoor farmer’s market.  I was a bit iffy about the farmer’s market but I was really glad that we went.  Not only was the produce good quality but it was much cheaper than what we normally get at the grocery store or Costco.  I think we may have a new store to add in to our rotation!  We stocked up on quite a few things but I can already think of veggies that I wish we had grabbed.

After running errands on Saturday, we got home and started cooking.  I had decided I’d cook several meals for this week ahead of time and that we could just reheat them during the week.  We’ll see how this approach goes.  It seemed okay on Saturday but I am not sure it is something I can do every weekend as I think I spent about 3 hours cooking and while I don’t mind cooking … I am really just not that into it.

On Sunday, we had a bunch of outdoor work planned but the weather didn’t fully cooperate.  We ended up only fertilizing the lawn, digging a “trench” for some water issues, and digging out some weeds.  After we finished those tasks, I spent some time prepping veggies for this week, doing laundry and generally relaxing on the couch in front of the tv.

We ate dinner early yesterday as we were both a bit hungry and, truthfully, I was a bit bored.  On the menu for dinner was chicken sausages, sautéed zucchini, and oven cooked sweet potato fries.

Interestingly, I don’t know that I’ve ever really had a sweet potato before.  When we were at Costco I saw a box for a really great price … much better than at the grocery store (I had checked before we went on our errands as I had wanted to try them this week) so we decided to just go for the box.  While some of the sweet potatoes look burned in the picture above they actually weren’t… they were still quite soft and chewy and I can honestly say that I am still not quite sure what I think / though of them.  I can say, though, I did not find them filling at all.  I ended up completely overeating on junk last night because I got too hungry, too bored, too tired, and too into a stupid tv show. Ugh!

As a result of my not eating so well last night, I didn’t sleep so well and I ended up just getting up about 20 minutes early this morning so I just put that extra time directly into my workout.  I ended up doing 110 minutes on the Arc Trainer and 30 minutes of weights.  Working out definitely felt good after eating last night.

At this point, I think it is safe to say that I’ve moved almost completely away from the New Leaf Training program that I was doing.  I’ve really been just doing what I want.  I’ve been pushing myself harder BUT not as hard as the program had me pushing.  I am debating on going back to the program for much shorter workouts and then tacking some of my “steady” state cardio onto the end but I am not sure.  I can tell you, though, as soon as it gets a bit lighter out in the morning … I will be adding in a running day at least 1 or 2 times a week.  I really enjoyed the running in Florida and I believe that doing a variety of exercises is really important.
