Vacation Recap

Wow – it seems like it has been forever since my last post.  I left off at about halfway through Day 4 (Wednesday).  After we finished our kayaking adventure, we went back to the pool for some rest and sun.  We ended up spending several hours there and then ran out to grab some dinner.  Adam ended up cooking most of dinner – a marinated pork loin, baked potatoes, veggies, and a salad.

I got up early on day 5 to get my exercise in.  I ran around the new resort that we were staying at and then went to the gym and man was it crowded!  I was able to snag a bike and later grab an elliptical.  After the gym, I took off for the pool and literally got the last remaining chair and it was only 10:30 am!  I guess people at this resort take their sun very seriously. Smile

Adam’s family came over around 11 and played mini golf, shuffle board, biked, and used the paddle boats while I slept at the pool.  They then went back to their resort while Adam and I spent a few more hours at ours.  We got over to their resort around 3:30 as we were headed to St. Petersburg.  They all wanted to see the Dali museum and I wanted to just walk around the piers.  It took us much longer to get there than we anticipated AND we hadn’t realized that there was an Indy car race going on.  So, the trip ended up being a bit of a dud and I didn’t get to see much of St. Petersburg but I did enjoy what I saw. We got back to the resorts late on Thursday night and ate at a local restaurant that was quite good.

Friday was designated a pool day and we spent all day at the pool. I think I was in heaven.  There is something about lounging at the pool that I just love.  We happened to select a pool where they were playing bingo and it was really funny to see how into it everyone was getting … although, with the prizes being over $250, I guess I can’t blame them.

Later in the day, we played shuffle board.  I am still not totally sure I am into the game.  I did okay… in fact, Adam’s mom and I won 2x but it is definitely a weird game.  After shuffleboard, Adam and I went out to an early dinner as we had to get up at 3:30 am so that we could get to our flight in time.

All in all… the vacation was pretty good although I was definitely ready to come back to my normal “routine”.

Vacation Day Three

Yesterday started off with a long run around the resort with Adam.  We ran from one end all the way to the other … stopped at the gym to lift weights and then ran back.  The run was 93 minutes including a 13 minute warm up / cool down and we spent about 30 minutes at the fitness center lifting weights.  We were both feeling tired after we finished.

After our workout, the whole family went to the pool for a few hours.  I was so tired (I haven’t been sleeping well) that I fell asleep.  Luckily our chairs were mostly in the shade so I didn’t get burned.  I am not sure who these people are in the pictures below.  I was trying to get pictures of the pool. ;)  It was a “lazy river” that we floated/swam around…

At about 1:30 we got up and headed back to the condo to change and go play minigolf.  I had found a Google Offer for $12 for two people to play an unlimited number of rounds and we had all jumped on it.  We played at a place called Mighty Jungle.  Can I just tell you … LAME!  All of the holes were almost all identical.  We had fun but the course was really pretty lame.  We were all glad that we hadn’t played the normal fees for this course.

After playing both of their courses (which ended up being identical) we headed back to the pool for an hour or so before dinner.  We ended up going out to dinner at a restaurant we found and I had a wonderful grilled chicken sandwich with a side salad. I don’t have any pictures as my inlaws already think I am weird… I didn’t want to push it. Winking smile

In between the running back and forth from the golf to the pool, Adam and I checked into the hotel that we are staying at for the next couple of days.  It was really pretty nice and it looks like we should be all set.

Vacation Day Two

Yesterday was officially day two of vacation and it was a golf filled day!  We started out with a bucket of range balls at 7:45 and followed that up with two rounds on a 9 hole course.  I was pretty nervous about playing with the men (Adam, his father, and his sister’s boyfriend) but I definitely held my own.  I even got a birdie on one hole and two pars!  Not too shabby for not having played in YEARS. And, when I say years… I think it has been probably at least 10 years since I played a full round of golf.  It definitely took me a bit to get back into the swing of things but I eventually got there.

The eighth hole was definitely the hardest.  It was surrounded by water on all sides.  You can’t see the hole in the picture but you can get the idea. On our first round, I had a beautiful shot that landed right on the green and over the water.  Unfortunately, I didn’t do so well on the later rounds!

There were tons of birds on the course.  They didn’t seem to mind our balls flying all around them.  Some even came pretty close to the cart.

We finished our second round around noon and then headed back to the condo for lunch.  After lunch we headed out to a pool for the afternoon.  Unfortunately, I got a tiny bit burned on one shoulder that wasn’t fully in the shade but it isn’t too bad.

We stayed at the pool for a couple of hours before heading back out to the golf course for one final round of nine holes with Adam’s sister and her boyfriend.  This was definitely my worst round of the day but I ended the 9th hole on a good note so I actually am looking forward to playing again soon.

Let’s see what day three brings!

Vacation Day One

Well, we made it to Orlando late Saturday night.  Luckily, we had no issue getting our baggage and getting to the car rental place.  After staying up late on Saturday night chatting we slept in a bit on Sunday morning.

Because we have plans for Monday morning, I switched my workouts up and decided to take Monday as a rest day. After looking at the options of the resort, I opted to try running this morning.  I haven’t gone running in well over a year due to plantars fasciitis but really wanted to explore the resort.  I thought I’d do a 20 minute run to the fitness center.  The run ended up being 50 minutes as the resort was much bigger than the maps implied and can I just say it felt SOOOO good to be out there running again.  I’ve really missed it.

After the run, I spent a few minutes lifting weights at the fitness center and then we made our way back to the condo.  We then spent the afternoon at an arts festival and then hit up the pool.  All in all a pretty good day.

I don’t have any good pictures from today so I’ll leave you with this glimpse of where we are staying (image source).
